A Farewell to The Owl House

[SPOILER FREE] The last episode of The Owl House was released last April 8, 2023, and this article is dedicated as a means of sending my appreciation to the show, especially, how much it means to me.  The Owl House first aired on January 10, 2020, which was just a couple of months away from the infamous March 2020. At that time, I was in my freshman year in college, adjusting and familiarizing a new environment–a new realm. Like Luz, I also felt like I was out of place since I didn’t really know what to do yet at that time, which is–I know, weird for a then 18-year-old freshman, but it was the truth. I passed college applications and took entrance exams just because that was what needed to be done. The course I took, I chose just because I wanted to get away from numbers as much as I could and because of an old childhood dream. At 18, there wasn’t a golden path that I wanted to take, but every decision I made, I made because I needed to.  The inevitable March came and I hate to admit i

6 BEST WLW MOVIES WITH HAPPY ENDINGS

Pride Month may pass by swiftly but our love for women will never stop

These days, I’m glad that lgbtq+ shows, movies, and cartoons are coming out of the surface, and getting mainstream, but we can’t deny that some of these contents oversexualize to the point that it's more like *softporn* than the good old standard movie, them, especially with new topics. But no need to worry, cause you can count on this random blogger to give you 6  feel-good movies that your 15-year-old closeted self, craved and needed.

*Movies are arranged from oldest to latest*

          D.E.B.S.(2004)

Directed by: Angela Robinson

Cast:

Jordana Brewster

Sara Foster

Meagan Good

Sara Foster

Devon Aoki

Synopsis:

A literal WLW movie disguised as a spy-action one, a model student/special spy cadet who fell in love with her agency’s biggest enemy.

Review:

Contrary to what the trailer of this movie shows, the plot is merely SAPPHIC that's right, induced with some Charlie’s Angels flavor but less of action scenes that would make you lift your butt off your chair, make it seem like the spy thingy isn’t really the point of the movie.  Reasons to watch, it's sweet, funny, and Jordana Brewster!

Imagine Me & You(2005)

Directed by: Ol Parker

Cast:

Piper Perabo

Lena Headey

Matthew Goode

Synopsis:

The newlywed bride was unfortunately fortunate to fall for the florists of her own wedding.

Review:

Although based on my summary it may look heavy and toxic, well it's not! not at all. the man was great. It's sweet and for me, it's kind of unrealistic with the "love at first sight" concept, but if you will not overthink too much and enjoy it, it's DA BUH EST And there's Piper Perabo! So what more can I say?

Booksmart (2019)

Directed by: Olivia Wilde

Cast:

Kaitlyn Dever

Beanie Feldstein

Diana Silvers

Lisa Kudrow

Synopsis:

It is of Age story where the valedictorian and the salutatorian best spend a night before graduation to make up for the “fun” they failed to experience while in high school.

Review:

This movie is quirky and funny, the plot is smooth, the characters are relatable (at least for me) and sapphic-wise, it is focused more on the night and the 2 best friends, but it is a representation of awkward lesbians out there! raise your hands! Amy played by Kaitlyn Dever, who is the salutatorian, and the gay best friend makes the most of the night by “interacting” with the ladies while being her awkward and funny self.

Happiest Season(2020)

Directed by: Clea Duvall

Cast:

Kirsten Stewart

Mackenzie Davis

Daniel Levy

Aubrey Plaza

Synopsis:

“The film follows a woman who struggles to come out to her conservative parents while she and her girlfriend visit them during Christmas. DuVall has said the film is a semi-autobiographical take on her own experiences with her family.” - Wikipedia

Review:

A Holiday rom-com movie! We have come to this day and age where we have Christmas movies with lesbian representation! The one out of 2 in the list that still sees being gay as taboo but nonetheless, it is a Christmas movie while at the same time discussing the topic of being gay and the pressure of being perfect is wonderfully done. definitely would watch this every Christmas day, though not with my parents lol.

The Prom Netflix & Broadway

Synopsis:

Down-on-their-luck Broadway stars shake up a small Indiana town as they rally behind a teen who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. - Google

The Prom was first played on Broadway and the movie was based on it.

*The Prom Netflix

Directed by: Ryan Murphy

Cast:

Meryl Streep

Nicole Kidman

James Corden

Andrew Rannells

Jo Ellen Pellman

Ariana DeBose

Review:

There's not much of a difference between the story of the two, but personally, I think the movie focused more on the famous actors involved, who are also the "Broadway actors" in the movie, in the story than the two teenage lovers against the world that the movie aims to represent and present. As seen on the posters, the main characters are basically shoved in the background. Regardless of that, it's B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. and it made me cry, like gallons of tears.

*The Prom Broadway

Directed by: Casey Nicholaw

        Cast:
            Caitlin Kinnunen
           Isabelle McCalla
           Beth Leavel
           Brooks Ashmanskas
           Christopher Sieber
           Angie Schworer

Review:
I unfortunately never got the chance to watch this live but I watched the show on a YouTube video it's their final show so it was really surreal and emotional I guess, but the casts were superb especially the main characters (Caitlin Kinnunen and Isabella McCalla) who are oozing with chemistry that it's hard not to ship them past their characters, vocals are on point, the other actors were perfect and funny and overall made me interested in Broadway.

Both the movie and Broadway have a special place in my heart.

 My First Summer(2020)

        Directed by: Katie Found

Cast:

Maiah Stewardson

Markella Kavenagh

Synopsis:

Isolated on a remote property, 16-year-old Claudia finds her sheltered world transformed when spirited teenager Grace appears in her garden, and the pair find a connection they both need.

Review:

If yellow is an adjective, that would be the best word to describe it. It is beautiful and quiet, at the same time, you can feel the raging sparking and building fire between them.

it shows teenage first love and how sometimes we can be stupid and do some stupid things for love. the teenage mold of the characters was spot-on and perfectly sculpted. I can say that this is one of the new movies that could legit give me some butterflies in my stomach.
